How to Troubleshoot Failed Pre-Recorded Streams?

Last updated on Jul 23, 2026

This article explains how to identify and resolve common issues that may prevent a pre-recorded stream from starting, playing correctly, or completing successfully in OneStream Live.

Common Symptoms

  • Stream does not start at the scheduled time.

  • Stream remains in Processing or Pending status.

  • Stream fails immediately after starting.

  • Viewers see a black screen or playback errors.

  • Audio or video is missing.

  • Stream stops before the video finishes.

Common Causes

  • Unsupported video or audio formats.

  • Corrupted or damaged media files.

  • Incomplete video uploads.

  • Incorrect stream scheduling.

  • Invalid or disconnected destinations.

  • Network interruptions during upload.

  • Destination platform errors.

Troubleshooting Steps

Verify the Video Upload

  • Make sure the video uploaded successfully.

  • Confirm that processing is complete before the scheduled broadcast.

  • If processing is stuck for an extended period, upload the video again.

Check Video Format and Encoding

Use recommended settings:

  • Container: MP4

  • Video Codec: H.264 (AVC)

  • Audio Codec: AAC

  • Frame Rate: Constant 30 or 60 FPS

  • Resolution: 720p or 1080p

Unsupported codecs, variable frame rates, or corrupted files may cause processing or playback issues.

Review the Stream Schedule

  • Verify the scheduled date and time.

  • Make sure the event has not expired.

  • Schedule the stream early enough for the video to finish processing.

Check the Destination

  • Make sure the destination is properly connected.

  • Verify destination authentication and permissions.

  • Confirm the stream key and destination settings are current.

  • Check whether the destination platform is available.

  • Reconnect the destination if necessary.

Test the Video File

Play the video locally and check for:

  • Playback interruptions.

  • Missing audio.

  • Corrupted frames.

  • Unexpected freezing.

If the video does not play correctly, export a new copy and upload it again.

Re-upload the Video

  • Delete the failed upload, if appropriate.

  • Upload a fresh copy of the video.

  • Wait for processing to complete.

  • Test the stream before the scheduled event.

Check Internet Stability

  • Use a stable wired connection whenever possible.

  • Avoid interrupting the upload.

  • Ensure sufficient upload bandwidth.

Create a Test Event

  • Create a new pre-recorded event.

  • Upload the same video.

  • Stream it to a test destination.

  • Confirm that the event starts successfully.

If Playback Is Incorrect

  • Confirm the source file contains both video and audio.

  • Verify the video uses supported codecs.

  • Check for playback issues reported by the destination platform.

  • Refresh the player and test on another browser or device.
