Pixelation and buffering can negatively impact your stream quality and viewer experience. These issues are commonly caused by incorrect encoder settings, insufficient internet bandwidth, or high device resource usage. Follow the troubleshooting steps below to improve your stream stability and quality.
Check Your Encoder Settings
-
Make sure your encoder settings match the recommended streaming settings.
-
Avoid unsupported resolutions or settings that exceed the recommended FPS or keyframe interval.
-
Ensure your video bitrate is sufficient for your selected resolution:
-
720p (HD): Minimum 1.5 Mbps
-
1080p (Full HD): Minimum 3 Mbps
-
-
Adjust your settings and test a new stream if they do not meet the recommended requirements.
-
If you use OBS, run OBS Analyzer to identify and resolve critical issues or warnings.
Check Your Internet Connection
-
Check whether your upload speed is sufficient for your selected bitrate.
-
Run an internet speed test to check your upload speed.
-
We recommend at least 10 Mbps, with 25 Mbps or higher being ideal.
-
Select the server that provides the highest upload speed and use it in your encoder settings.
-
Set your video bitrate to no more than half of your available upload speed.
-
Restart your modem or router if your connection is unstable.
-
Use an Ethernet connection whenever possible for better stability.
-
If Ethernet is not available, move closer to your Wi-Fi router.
-
Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if low speeds continue.
Check Your Device Performance
High CPU usage can affect stream stability and cause buffering or pixelation.
For Windows
-
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete.
-
Open Task Manager.
-
Check your CPU usage.
For Mac
-
Open Launchpad.
-
Open Activity Monitor.
-
Check your CPU usage.
If CPU usage is 80% or higher:
-
Close unnecessary applications running in the background.
-
Keep your laptop connected to a power source.
-
Restart your device.
-
Lower your encoder settings, such as bitrate, resolution, or FPS.
-
Try a slower encoder preset if your device can handle it better.
-
If high CPU usage continues, consider upgrading to a device with better processing power.
